Scott Durbin and Scott “Smitty” Smith Looking Out the Window New Orleans, LA Scott and Smitty, two members of the quartet Imagination
Movers that also includes Rich Collins and Dave Poche, describe
themselves as ‘The
Beastie Boys’ meet Mr. Rogers, these blue-suit wearing group of
dads promise hip funky music for all ages. With a mission to “encourage
creativity, model problem solving, foster independence and promote self-esteem,” the
Imagination Movers set the standards for meaningful and delightful children’s
music. They’re known for playing garbage cans, paint buckets and
pots and pans, always have shakable fruit on hand and are always willing
to open a can of fresh funk. They do the fridge dance, the medicine dance;
they goggle rock. The song was inspired by a long road trip the band underwent
to go to shows in South Carolina. After looking out their windows for
hours the band quickly began to use their boredom as the creative sources
for the lyrics to the song. The band takes pride in fusing the observations
they make as fathers and teachers into “rocking, timeless music
that is grounded in child development and education.” Imagination
Movers have been recognized with awards including 2004 Best Recording
for Younger Children and 2004 Best Recording for Older Children by Children’s
Music Web, the 2004 Parents’ Choice Recommended Award and the 2004
National Association of Parenting Publications Honors Award
as well as recognition for their song Toothache by the
2003 JLSC and the Great American Song Honor Award. Their CD is Calling
All Movers and their debut DVD was released in April
2005. |
